BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The residents of the City of St. George will vote on a two-percent sales tax transfer during the December election.

After the appointed members of the St. George Transition District were sworn in, leaders met immediately after to discuss the transfer of the two-percent sales tax revenue from East Baton Rouge Parish.

Leaders say this is not a new sales tax, but money that is currently being paid by everyone in East Baton Rouge.

The two-percent sales tax was signed into law in 2020. It allows the collection of the sales tax, which would be used for city services, such as trash collection and drainage.

Voters will be able to decide during the Congressional/Open General election on December 7.
