Early Wednesday, Davenport Police were told about an infant left on the sidewalk at Genesis East Medical Center, 1227 E. Rusholme St.

Kirk, police say, was admitted into the hospital in connection with another call for service with Davenport Police, affidavits show. While she was in the emergency room at Genesis East, she had a 15-week-old child with her in a car seat carrier.

Kirk was discharged from the medical center and was seen leaving at 12:34 a.m. with the infant in a carrier, according to affidavits. She walked to the corner of the parking lot near Bridge Avenue where she set the carrier down and covered it with a blanket. She then looked around and began to run away from the area where the carrier was placed.

About 12:46 a.m., Genesis Security and off-duty police found the carrier, according to affidavits, which say “The infant was left alone for approximately 12 minutes, near a busy street with vehicles and pedestrian traffic, in the elements of the weather.”

The infant is about 15 weeks old and weighs only nine pounds, police say in affidavits.

Kirk, who was arrested on a warrant, was being held Wednesday in Scott County Jail.
